Practice Areas

Contested matters, handled from the first call.

We act across the full range of disputes. If a matter has to be argued in court or before a tribunal, the chances are we handle it. The six areas below are where most of our work sits; tell us what has happened and we will tell you how we can help.

Civil & commercial litigation

We act for claimants and defendants in all manner of civil and commercial claims in the State Courts and the High Court, from contract, debt and defamation to general torts and negligence, and in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Before a claim is filed, we look hard at two questions: can it be won, and can the money be recovered?

  • Breach of contract
  • Debt recovery
  • Defamation, online and in print
  • Commercial service and supply disputes
  • Property and investment misrepresentation
  • Claims arising from workplace misconduct
  • General torts and negligence
  • Mediation and alternative dispute resolution

Defamation lawyer in Singapore. If something false has been said about you or your business, the first days matter: keep the evidence, and do not reply in public. We advise on letters of demand, defamation claims and orders under the Protection from Harassment Act. Read our guide to defamation in Singapore.

Shareholder, director & corporate disputes

Most of these disputes begin when trust breaks down between people who built a business together. We act for minority shareholders, majority owners and directors, often in several related proceedings at once.

  • Minority oppression claims
  • Quasi-partnership breakdowns
  • Wrongful removal of directors
  • Breach of shareholders’ agreements
  • Disputed share transfers and valuations
  • Directors’ duties and company disputes

Cross-border disputes & international arbitration

When a dispute touches more than one country, we run it from Singapore and bring in foreign counsel from the start, so that a step taken in one forum does not cost you in another. We act in mediation and arbitration, including under the SIAC Rules.

  • SIAC and international arbitration
  • Multi-jurisdiction litigation
  • Mediation, including at the Singapore Mediation Centre
  • Urgent interim and emergency arbitrator relief
  • Cross-border enforcement and recovery
  • Acting with foreign counsel as Singapore counsel

Criminal defence & regulatory

We defend individuals at investigation, trial and appeal, and in professional discipline. Akesh has also prosecuted for statutory bodies and acted for the Law Society in disciplinary tribunals, so he knows how the other side builds a case.

  • Road traffic offences, including drink driving
  • Penal Code offences: cheating, criminal breach of trust, assault, sexual offences
  • Misuse of Drugs Act offences
  • Protection from Harassment Act (POHA) proceedings

Sports, media & entertainment

We act for athletes, sports organisations, media personalities and influencers, in disputes and in advisory work. A public profile changes how a dispute should be run, and we plan for the public side of a matter as well as the legal one.

  • Athlete and talent contracts and negotiations
  • Reputation and defamation
  • Disputes with clubs, promoters and sponsors
  • Corporate and commercial advice to sports businesses
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Disputes over content, confidential information and copyright
Our work in this area has included acting for individuals connected with English Premier League clubs and for a WWE superstar, and advising a Formula 1 team.

Family & estate disputes

Disputes inside a family are expensive in more than money. We act in contentious probate and cross-border matrimonial matters, and we look for a settlement through mediation where one can be found.

  • Contentious probate
  • Executors’ and administrators’ duties
  • Cross-border matrimonial matters
  • Settlement through mediation
